Greater Amman Municipality

Municipalities

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) plays a pivotal role in the governance and development of Jordan’s capital, Amman. As a civil society institution with a legal personality, GAM operates with financial and administrative independence under the Greater Amman Municipality Law (18) of 2021. Covering an extensive area of 800 km² and serving over 4 million residents, it is dedicated to providing essential public and municipal services.

Managed by a Municipal Council composed of elected and appointed members, GAM ensures that the voices of the community are represented while adhering to regulations that govern its operations. The municipality’s financial resources are derived from various taxes and duties related to building permits, land taxes, traffic violations, and more. Additionally, revenues from investments in municipal lands and properties contribute to its budget.

GAM is structured into six key sectors: Public Works, Planning, Health & Agriculture, Areas & Environment, Finance & Administration, and Community Development. This division allows for efficient management of services across its 22 administrative areas. Each sector is focused on fulfilling GAM’s mission: delivering distinguished municipal services that prioritize environmental sustainability, health initiatives, infrastructure development, and cultural heritage preservation.

By optimizing resource investment and fostering community development, the Greater Amman Municipality is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens in Amman. For more information about their services or initiatives, visit their official website or contact their offices directly.
